WARNING: Techie tip ahead. Just like the last post, some terms may not be understood by all audiences.
When somebody tells you, particularly a computer technician/ engineer tells you that, "yes, your files are all safe in your hard drive but no, it would be difficult to retrieve them- close to impossible," do not believe them.
When my old laptop (rest her soul), who, by the way, passed on due to a damaged system board, display panel and touch pad (yes, all three... i know. it hurt.), was in the service center, the guy said that my hard drive was safe. The skies cleared and the clouds parted. Bright lights came from above, angels sang a chorus of Hallelujah. But my rejoice was short lived when he said that they tried extracting the files but didn't pursue it anymore because a file was corrupted. I asked if it was possible to still extract it. You know, maybe transferring the hard drive into another computer? Well, basically, the response they gave me was nada- none- zip- impossible. Possible but close to impossible. Like trying to find another person who had the exact same laptop as I did, switch hard drives and back up my files. I asked if there were some shops who could somehow extract files from my disk using a device and well, there is but they don't know where. So much for service. Obviously, they wanted to keep the service- and money- to themselves.
But I found out it was possible. As easy as 1-2-3. Thanks to my techie of a brother, Enzo, he found out from his
suki computer store that there is such a thing as a mobile hard drive. They take out the hard drive from your old computer, insert it into the device, screw it in place, attach the USB port into your new computer and presto! You've got all your files back! No difficult installments whatsoever! And for only P788! The best part is, one size fits all! Okay, I should stop. I sound like an ad here.
I've never been so happy to see my old files from work before- or the hundreds of pictures of A and me, which I was about to back up before the laptop died on me. I seriously hugged my (new) laptop right there at the computer store.
Definitely a happy ending for me.
